550+ Birthday Parties!
Our first birthday party was held June 18, 2010. Since that time we hve provided over 550 birthday parties throughout Central Oregon. And we've never seen one. Staying behind the scene - that's what it's all about. Thank you for your generous support through the donations you make.
A Young Mother Just last week a Mom called us on a Friday to tell us she had just been told about Devin's Destiny providing birthday parties for homeless children. She went on to explain that, "My daughter's 4th birthday is today." She told us she had to cancel the party because she couldn't afford to do it. She had invited 10 children to her daughter's party at a local pizza parlor, but because she didn't have the money to pay for it she had begun making the phone calls to the parents of the kids telling them it was cancelled. That's when someone told her about our foundation. When she called we could tell things were very difficult for her. She told us that she, her 4 year daughter and 2 year old son were living in her car. She said, "Is there anything you can do?" We told her, "Don't call anyone to tell them the party is cancelled." We picked up the phone, called the pizza parlor and made arrangements to pay for the party three hours before it was scheduled to begin. So, other than the first parent she called, no one ever knew the party was in jeopardy. What a blessing it is to be able to do these things. Because of the generosity of our donors there are children with smiles on their faces that otherwise wouldn't be there.
Kids Helping Kids
On two separate occasions in the past few weeks we have received unsolicited donations from children. The first came from two young boys on the East coast. When their grandmother told them there are children that never get a birthday party they took it upon themselves to make cookies and cupcakes.
They then went around and sold them. When we received a bulky package in the mail we were puzzled what it was. In addition to their note package contained $230! Thank you Joe and Jon.
